ORAL HEALTH EDUCATION

"Hello, we are Liann and Abbie, qualified Oral Health Educators.

We attend nursery and schools where we demonstrate how to look after your teeth and go over what foods and drinks can affect your oral health.

Appointments can also be booked with us for a one to one within the practice, where we will go through anything from tooth-brushing, disclosing (this shows up where you have missed parts of your teeth when brushing), to inter-dental cleaning.

We aim to encourage children to use the correct tooth-brushing technique and how to maintain the best for their oral health."

OUR FREE, BESPOKE
SCHOOL VISIT PROGRAMME

'BEAMING BAIRNS'

It's never too early to learn good dental health.

Our School visits aren't just for schools we attend both nurseries and pre-schools too.

The aim of our visits is to teach children good oral health. From showing them brushing techniques and when's best to brush, to how their diet plays apart in their tooth's health. Showing them what foods are good and bad for their teeth.

This is delivered to them in a fun and interesting way, playing games, demonstrations and volunteers can even dress up as the dentist!

If you would like more information on visits, please call the practice and speak to Liann and Abbie, our oral health educators.

WHAT WE DO
ON OUR SCHOOL VISITS

Diet advice - Our Dental Educators, Liann and Abbie, will discuss healthy eating, with picture cards to show good and bad food & drinks.

Games - We will bring along games to help make learning more exciting and memorable.

Demonstrations - Using our giant teeth and toothbrush Liann will demonstrate how to brush your teeth correctly, we also use giant sugar cubes to help show sugar how much sugar foods can contain.

Discussions - As well as visual props we like to get the children involved to see if they can guess the sugar content in each food. We will also discuss what toothpaste to use and how often and long you should brush your teeth for.

Role play - Willing participants will be invited to dress up as the dentist and have a go at brushing the giant teeth.

Most visits last for around 30 minutes, depending on the class size.

FLUORIDE VARNISH PROGRAMME

Research shows that fluoride varnish is highly effective at reducing tooth decay. The amount of times it is applied depends on the individuals risk from decay.

But, What is fluoride?

Fluoride is a natural occurring mineral that helps to prevent tooth decay. It can be found in toothpaste and fluoride varnish.

What is fluoride varnish and what is it used for?

Fluoride varnish is a pale, yellow, gel which is painted on to children's teeth using a soft brush. The varnish sets quickly and has a pleasant taste and fruity smell.
